Ofcors vs Insomnia

An Insomnia alternative that never asks you to sign in.

Insomnia is a capable API client and design tool from Kong, with scripting, mocks and a CLI. Ofcors is a native app for hands-on API work that needs no account for anything, built around gRPC, flows, AI endpoints and MCP servers.

Compared on 4 October 2026 against Insomnia 13.3, from Kong's own site, docs and source (linked below).

The short version

Ofcors fits if you want

  • No account, for anything: collections, environments and secrets all work signed out.
  • gRPC with protos fetched from their own git repo and kept in sync, a FieldMask picker and schema-drift warnings.
  • Flows: chain requests in a notebook or on a canvas, each step using earlier responses, with checks and script steps in any language.
  • A chat view for streaming AI endpoints, with time to first token and tokens per second.
  • A native app, and every feature free with no tiers.

Insomnia fits better if you rely on

  • JavaScript pre-request and test scripts on every request, and the inso CLI's test reports in CI.
  • Mock servers and an OpenAPI design editor with linting.
  • WebSocket, Socket.IO or SOAP requests.
  • Open source (Apache-2.0), or Kong's API platform.

Ofcors doesn't do these yet. If they're central to your work, Insomnia is the better tool today.

Questions

Can I bring my Insomnia collections over?

Not in one click yet: Insomnia exports its own YAML format and HAR, not Postman collections, and Ofcors doesn't read those yet. You can copy any request as cURL in Insomnia and paste it into Ofcors's URL bar. An Insomnia importer is on our list.

Can I use both?

Yes. Ofcors needs no account and keeps your work on your machine, so it can sit next to Insomnia for gRPC, flows, MCP servers and AI endpoints.

Is Ofcors open source?

No. Ofcors is free to use with no tiers for local work; a paid Team plan for live shared workspaces is coming. If an open-source licence matters to your team, that's a point for Insomnia.

Is Ofcors affiliated with Insomnia or Kong?

No. Ofcors is an independent product. Insomnia is a trademark of Kong Inc.
